Every two years, Thomas Jefferson provides travel abroad trips that both students and staff can participate in. The trips allow students to experience traveling abroad for a fraction of the normal cost.

Students sign up for the trips in the fall and then travel abroad in the summer of the following year. For example, the most recent trip was scheduled for 2020 meaning students signed up in the fall of 2018.

However, due to Covid and cancellations, the 2020 trip was postponed. Carmen Kinsley, TJ counselor and group leader for the 2020 trip, explained the cancellations.

“We were not able to travel last summer on the 2020 trip to Germany,” stated Kinsley. “That trip is currently on hold. Hopefully, we will be able to travel next summer [summer of 2021].”

Many students are frustrated with the cancellations as they already paid to participate in the 2020 trip. Other students are frustrated because the cancellation has pushed back the upcoming 2022 trip.

The 2022 trip had a scheduled informational and sign-up meeting for October 2020. However, the cancellations have pushed back this meeting indefinitely.

“We are waiting on the 2022 trip until things are finalized for the current (2020) trip,” explained Kinsley.

Kinsley urges students to keep checking in for new information on the 2022 meeting. As soon as plans are finalized for the 2020 trip, the 2022 trip sign-ups and meetings will be underway.
