The United States Presidential Election day is fast approaching. Election day will be held on Tuesday, November third nationwide; though there are some important deadlines coming up for Iowa voters.

The deadline for registering to vote is Saturday, October 24th. You can register online using your Iowa Driver’s license of ID by going to mymvd.iowadot.gov. You can also register by mail by going to the same page and clicking the link that says, “Register to vote by mail”

You can also choose to register in person by going to your state or local election office. You may also be able to register at one of the following public facilities: The department of motor vehicles (DMV), Armed forces recruitment centers, and State and county public assistance offices (such as WIC or SNAP/food stamps). Check online before going to any of these locations. The deadline to register in person is Saturday, October 24th by 5:00 p.m.

You can also request an absentee ballot; the deadline to request one is Saturday, October 24th by 5:00 p.m. An absentee ballot allows the voter to vote at a different location other than the one the voter is normally sent to. The voter can then vote at a different location, by mail, or online.

Absentee requests must be returned via mail by November third (received by November third) at the close of the polls or returned in person at the close of the polls.

Early voting is available and differs depending on where you live. Early voting takes place from October fifth to November second. Look online to find the dates and times where you can vote early.

For anyone unable to do any of the following above, you can register to vote on election day in person at your designated polling office.

Anyone 18 and older that is a resident of Iowa (and a citizen of the United States) can vote. Everyone that is able to should vote. We hope that everyone has a pleasant voting process and we can’t wait for election day!
